    Dressmaking Fabrics for Formal Tops

    May 24th, 2012

When it comes to Dressmaking, we often choose the types of Dressmaking Fabrics we used depending upon the particular garment it is that we are creating. Often the choice of Dressmaking Fabrics can depend upon personal preference to the type of material you would prefer, however the style of the garment being made is also often aninfluence on the choice of Dressmaking Fabrics.

Today I would like to have a look at a paricular type of garment – Formal Tops, and look at some of the best options that are available for getting the best results…..

One of our favourites for this kind of garment is Microfibre. This material is often described as having a ‘peachskin’ feel to it and is a wonderfully draping Dressmaking Fabric offering the highest quality and comfort to the wearer. It is a popular option as it oozes class and doesn’t necessrily need to be lined, especially for garments now we are coming into much warmer months of the year!

Another popular type of Dressmaking Fabric that is often used for formal tops is Super Soft Duchess Satin. This is again a material that is used due to its fantastic drape and quality look and feel, as well as it giving a wonderful sheen on the Satin side for those special occasions!

For those of you working on a budget, we also havea great choice of Economy Dressmaking Fabrics in these varieties – ‘Microfibre Peachskin’ and ‘Economy Satin’. As well as being great quality Dressmaking Fabrics, these are often also used for one off occasions and can even be used to line heavier Dressmaking Fabrics!

    Two Tone Dressmaking Fabrics!

    April 27th, 2012

Here at Fabric-World, we are always looking for stunning new Dressmaking Fabrics to add to our collection. When it comes to your Dressmaking projects, it is often the case that you want something fresh and unique to really create that individual garment for a special occasion. One way of using Dressmaking Fabrics to show off a sense of style is by using ‘two-tone’ fabrics. This two-tone effect in t he material is created through the weaving process of the material, meaning that different shades and colours can be seen from different angles and in different lights.

We have a couple of range of Dressmaking Fabrics with a two tone weave. One personal favourite is the Cationic Chiffon which comes in a fantastic range of colours. An example of  this material is the ‘green’ shade with a red weave flashing through the grain. This really is a great way to spice up a favourite Dressmaking pattern or create a funky new garment.

Another range of materials that includes several options of two-tone shades is the Taffeta Dressmaking Fabric. Taffeta is a crisp yet light material that is often used for creating formal garments, and the effect of having two shades really broadens your options for colour matching. A great example of the Taffeta is the ‘Petrol Blue’ shade in which in different lights it appears blue and red.

Please do feel free to browse through our website at the full range of Dressmaking Fabrics on offer and should you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to contact us on 0151 336 3939 and a member of our sales team will be more than happy to help you!
