Zips

Zips is a device that temporarily joins two edges of a fabric together and it is widely used in clothing, bags, purses, tents, suitcases and other textiles. And it consists of two strips of fabric tape, one permanently fixed to each of the two flaps to be joined, and each carries tens or hundreds of specially shaped metal or plastic teeth. The other part of the slider is the one that is operated by hand. This rides up and down the two sets of teeth. And inside the slider is a Y- shaped channel that pushes both of the opposing sets of teeth apart and depending on the direction of the slider.

Zips is not only used to join two separate parts of a garment as in a dress, skirt or front of a jacket it is also being use to increase the size of an opening to allow the passage of objects. Zips may also be use to either attach or detach a separable part of a garment to or from the other, the best example of this is the conversion of a trousers and shorts or the attachment and detachment of a hood in a coat. Zips are also use for embellishment or decoration purposes too. Zips have been used for many years already in the fabric and textile industry. The cost of a zipper is relatively cheap and depends on the material and quality. However, when a zip fails the garment may be not usable until the zipper is fixed or repaired and it can be quite expensive.
